Abstract

The use of web-based interactive courseware which, in addition to the usual situation of presenting courses as static hypertext documents including text and graphics allows students to access artificial intelligence languages and expert system components directly from their web browser. The system is at beta test stage and is being used in courses on AI languages to engineering and computer science students. The overall approach used in reformulating existing lecture material and associated computer laboratory demonstrations and exercises into web-based interactive courseware is set out and the rationale for the choice between server side CGI scripts, plug-ins, and Java Applets is briefly discussed.
