Abstract

In a study of 2,500 upper gastro-intestinal examinations, polyps were seen in 106 cases. This represents an incidence of 4.2% in all endoscopies. Five polyps were in the esophagus, 83 in the stomach and 18 in the duodenum. There was a significant correlation between inflammatory polyps and the presence of gastritis. Benign polyps, larger than 1.5 cm in diameter, were usually adenomatous and almost exclusively confined to the stomach.
