Abstract

A study was conducted to investigate some of the existing and potential challenges that are faced in developing a new generation of Semantic Web applications. The study was conducted, to develop a new generation of applications that will exploit the Semantic Web, as a large-scale and heterogeneous resource. The study also highlighted some of the key achievements in the development of new generation of applications for the Semantic Web and the existing and potential challenges, involved in the development of these applications. Researchers, involved in the study have stated that these challenges need to be overcome, to develop the Semantic Web, as a large-scale enabling infrastructure for data integration and in developing a new generation of intelligent applications. The study also highlighted the need of creating effective methods for acquiring, representing, and reasoning, along with large amount of domain knowledge, to develop a new generation of applications for the Semantic Web.
