Abstract
The role of the 21st-century journalist is being transformed by the Internet, particularly by social media, in ways that are still being negotiated. As journalism has evolved from a broadcast to a networked conversation (Boyd 2010), journalists are often the fi rst point of “immediate, direct contact” (Sivek 2010) with the “people formerly known as the audience” (Rosen 2006).
