Abstract

The luminescence of Gd³⁺ in YOCl is reported. From temperature dependent emission spectra and decay measurements, the Judd-Ofelt parameters Ω₂ and Ω₆ of Gd³⁺ in YOCl are obtained: Ω₂ = 2.97 × 10^-23 m² and Ω₆ = 8.65 × 10^-24m². The relative consistency of Ω₂ and Ù6 is confirmed by measuring the ⁸S_7/2→⁶D_9/2 and ⁶I_7/2 transitions in excitation.
