Abstract
Studies of designs for extremely large telescopes have been undertaken at Lund Observatory since 1991. Presently, the studies are concerned with a 50 m fully adaptive telescope. A segmented primary mirror with 2 m segments is taken as baseline with the option of a monolithic primary mirror manufactured on-site kept open. A two mirror solution with an aspheric primary mirror os most attractive both from a performance and cost point of view. A Gregorian two-mirror configuration is applied.
