Abstract
The geochemistry of three pegmatites and their host granites from geographically separate localities in the Galway granite batholith is investigated. Major and trace element geochemistry reflects the well defined evolutionary trends within the batholith. The REE geochemistry shows that each pegmatite has a unique REE pattern which is similar to the REE pattern of its granite host. This suggests that the pegmatites represent residual melts locally derived from the surrounding granite. -Authors
