Abstract

Direct photoelectric measurements of the build-up of ultra-short pulses in a ruby laser passively mode-locked by DDCI and DTDCI show that the nature of the pulse generation process is strongly dependent on the absorber relaxation time, which also determines the ultimate pulse duration.
