Abstract

Translational statistics report results of an analysis of data in a way that is designed to facilitate the use of the results as a guide in practical settings. In this sense, they go beyond the basic inferential statistics that are the focus of most applications of statistics. The goal is to reach a target audience whose concern is how to implement results based on what has been learned. This audience may not have the statistical background to understand the fine details of the analysis, but it is essential that they understand what the results mean. We illustrate the fundamental ideas with several examples from a variety of settings.
