Abstract

This paper discusses the scope for algebraic and symbolic analysis of bond graphs in the modelling and analysis of complex dynamical systems. It includes a description of a prototype suite of symbolic programs (henceforth referred to as the Bond Graph Toolbox) which assign causality, generate symbolic input-output relationships for the junction structure and directly generate transfer functions, signal flow graphs and transfer-matrices. Sample applications illustrating the operation of the tools and the results which can be obtained with symbolic analysis are presented.
