Abstract
When mouse spleen cells were cultured in vitro without the deliberate addition of any stimulating cells, T cell-mediated cytotoxicity was generated which could be detected by lysis of 51Cr-labelled syngeneic and allogeneic tumour target cells. The clonal basis of such spontaneous cytotoxicity was investigated by limit dilution analysis and a comparison made between it and so-called 'tumour-specific' cytotoxicity generated in vitro.
