Abstract
A singular-solution approach is used to derive n discrete coupled ordinary differential equations governing the transient dynamic response of an initially stressed flat plate that is assumed to be a continuum model of a large space structure. Non-proportional damping is assumed. A reduced-order model of N ( less than equivalent to n) coupled ordinary differential equations is derived in terms of the amplitudes of pseudo-modes of the nominally undamped system. Optimal control is implemented using m ( less than equivalent to N) control-force actuators, in addition to a possible number p ( less than equivalent to m) passive viscous dampers. Algorithms for efficient solution of Riccati equations are implemented.
