    Abstract

The 14th session of the Rural Voices series, featured John Daly, Senior Economist at the Northern and Western Regional Assembly who presented the Assemblys recent study of the level of public Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points in the Northern and Western Region of Ireland, using data from the ESB, Plugshare and Open Charge Map. This analysis also surveyed the attitudes of just under 400 residents from rural communities in the Northern and Western Region, the most rural oriented region under Project Ireland 2040, examining the degree to which EV infrastructure and grants could influence their demand for EVs and other topics related to EVs. The Assemblys research found that there was a low level of publicly available EV charge points in the Northern and Western Region, both in absolute terms and per km2. This presentation also helped inform debate on the effectiveness of policy interventions in growing demand for EVs in rural communities.
