Abstract

Primary care is central to the health system and patient care. Evidence for the optimal delivery of such healthcare can only be obtained by research and development involving primary care practitioners and their patients. The present capacity of Irish primary care to provide this evidence base is limited. A coherent strategy to improve the quantity and quality of Irish primary care RandD is outlined. Consideration is given to how research findings will be implemented.
