Abstract

A summary account of the royal site of Rathcroghan famous in early Irish epic literature as the seat of Queen Maeve and the place where the great cattle raid of Cooley began. Rich in legend and archaeology, this account is based of the extensive study by J. Waddell, J. Fenwick and K. Barton, Rathcroghan, Co. Roscommon: archaeological and geophysical survey in a ritual landscape, 249pp. (Wordwell, Dublin, 2009).
