Abstract
This paper sets out to explore aspects of ‘parenting’ as featured in the discourse centred on the Looking After Children system. Whilst acknowledging the need for reform in the interests of ‘looked after’ children and young people, the discussion seeks to illuminate problems, ambiguities and contradictions associated with the ‘parenting’ construct which lies at the heart of the scheme.
