Abstract

Using data gathered from a national mail survey of manufacturing industry in Ireland in 1980, this paper gives details of the quality practices of over 500 Irish-based firms employing less than 100 persons. Comparisons are made with practices in larger firms using data from the same survey. A pilot study in six small manufacturing firms which began early in 1983 is briefly summarised and the establishment of the Quality Assurance Research unit is noted.
