Abstract

Emergency General Surgery (EGS) is one of the most common presentations to hospitals with associated significant mortality and morbidity. EGS patients require optimal care just like their elective counterparts and currently are subject to very few quality programmes. Creating a foundation for improved systems and outcomes is essential in EGS. This chapter identifies areas in EGS care that will lay the foundation for improved patient outcomes, enhancing the quality and safety of patient care and ensuring greater satisfaction among providers of care.
