Abstract

This chapter will discuss psychosocial health and outline some of the evidence and issues relevant to cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation settings. It examines why psychosocial health is important for preventive, restorative, and supportive rehabilitation. There is a focus on practical applications of the psychological evidence base in the assessment and treatment of those attending a cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation programme (CPRP). Specific attention will be given to the role of social support, group processes, and the importance of incorporating psychological principles into goal-setting. Consideration will be given to the appropriateness of interventions in CPRP settings, dependent on professional competencies within the team.
