Abstract
The early and severe mortality in myocardial infarction requires the semiquantitative appreciation of its gravity in order to determine its prognosis, treatment and eventual investigation. The prognostic index of Peel, modified by Marx and Yu, was applied to 100 patients who had suffered from an acute myocardial infarction in the preceeding 12 hr. The concordance between the predicted mortality (by Marx and Yu) and the mortality observed by the authors in the present series confirms the prognostic value of this index.
