Abstract

This paper explores the role that Production Activity Control (PAC) will play in the Computer Integrated manufacturing environment (CIM). Initially 'Computer Integrated Manufacturing' is defined. The evolution towards CIM is explained and the various features that make up the CIM system are identified. Production Activity Control is identified as a key node in the integration of the engineering applications of computer aided manufacture with the 'MIS applications'. The nature of this integration via the PAC system is then explored. Finally methodologies for the development and implementation of CIM are proposed.
