Abstract

The Galway granite in the west of Ireland contains a significant concentration of Mo-Cu at Mace Head in the centre of its westernmost Carna dome. Fluid inclusion studies of the granite, the quartz veins and of a K-feldspar breccia cutting the granite indicate the presence of three aqueous fluid inclusion types. Type 1, the predominant type, are mainly NaCl bearing, type 2 are CO2 bearing and type 3 contain a solid phase. The type 1 inclusions at Mace Head are typical of those found in the peripheral zones of porphyry deposits and in sheeted vein W, Sn and Mo deposits. -from Authors
