Parameter trends in small scale wastewater treatment systems. : Small wastewater treatment plants suffer from poor supervision, increased energy costs, shock wastewater loads as well as stringent wastewater discharge limits. The use of real time control of wastewater treatment systems has the potential to allow desired effluent standards to be met while simultaneously improving energy efficiency. This study investigates trends created during a treatment cycle and their ability to predict parameter concentrations such as ammonia and nitrates. To facilitate this research three separate units were used, namely, a laboratory scale unit, an onsite pilot scale test center, and an active municipal wastewater treatment plant.
