Abstract

New U-Pb zircon ages are presented from two samples of the Inish Pluton, Galway Granite Complex (GGC), Connemara, western Ireland. One sample is from the Main Inish Granite and the other is from the pluton’s marginal granite facies. The results of the U-Pb zircon geochronology show that the Main Inish Granite was emplaced at 422.72±0.19Ma and the marginal facies at 423.77±0.26Ma. The significance of the new ages is discussed in relation to the geology of the Inish Pluton and the temporal assembly of the GGC.
