N-didehydrotyrosine identified from the northeastern atlantic marine sponge hymeniacidon perlevis after chemical screening

Abstract

Chemical screening of bio-resources coupled with dereplication is an efficient method to discover new chemical scaffolds. In this study, twenty Irish marine sponges were subjected to rapid SPE fractionation followed by their chemical screening based on 1H NMR and HPLC-DAD-ELSD profiles. A fraction obtained from the sponge Hymeniacidon perlevis had the most promising profile, and further purifications and spectroscopic investigations including HRMS, 1D and 2D NMR led to the identification of a new metabolite N-didehydrotyrosine (1) and the known compound N9-methyladenine (2).
