Abstract

This essay aims to provide a brief, but comprehensive account of modern literay theory, and of its impact on the field of Classics. Thus it makes a contribution to the area of reception studies, which has now become so important within the discipline of Classics. The essay should prove of interest to undergraduate students of Classics, to postgraduate students, and to those engaged in research. The extensive bibliography could enable those students to pursue their particular interests.
