Abstract
After more than a decade o f scholarly work that has examined masculinities and schooling, the popular press in North America have begun to take up the issue o f boys and achievement in schools. However, the way in which boys and schooling have been addressed as popular discourse has created a upanic " that does not reflect the same concerns scholars and educators have raised in the literature. This article will explore some of the central social justice issues regarding boys and schooling and will address the contradictions between practice and panic.
