Abstract

Although the role of management in safety is well recognized, very little effort has examined the mechanisms by which managers can actually influence the safety of their worksites. An overview is given on preliminary findings from several studies concerning the impact of management leadership style and workforce safety behaviors. When the common factors are extracted from a review of the principal themes measured in published accounts of safety climate research, then the role of management is clearly seen.
