LCA harmonization for the last-mile delivery sector

Research output: Chapter in Book or Conference Publication/ProceedingConference Publicationpeer-review

Abstract

Last mile delivery refers to the very last step of the delivery service, when a parcel is moved from the transportation hub to its final destination. LCA of services are profoundly more complex than products due to intangible characteristics of the former. This poster aims to briefly introduce some of the important aspects to be considered during the development of the initial phases of a last mile delivery LCA with a special distinction to the development of a suitable functional unit for the assessment. Modelling the environmental impacts of last mile delivery services based solely on the environmental impacts of conventional and alternatively fueled vehicles in movement (vehicle-km) can hinder several inputs due to the lack of representativeness of the system boundary and functional unit.
