Abstract
The influence of the local coordination ions on the optical properties of EU3+ in fluoro-chloride glasses has been investigated by means of fluorescence line-narrowing spectroscopy. The decay of the line-narrowed fluorescence of the D-5(0)-- F-7(2) hypersensitive transition, the line width of the line narrowed D-5(0) -- F-7(0) emission, and the average strength of the crystal field measured as a function of excitation energy along the F-7(0) -- D-5(0) absorption can be interpreted as indicating a crossover between the behaviour of fluorine-like and chlorine-like coordination anions.
