Abstract
Udaras na Gaeltachta is a semi-state agency charged with the development of the Gaeltacht. Its dual mandate has inherent difficulties as economic development increases the impact of outside influences on the Gaeltacht. These may erode the status of the Irish language and culture within the Gaeltacht. Udaras has pursued its objectives mainly through a policy of creating industrial employment in Gaeltacht areas and has made a significant contribution to job creation and community viability in the Gaeltacht areas. -from Authors
