Human factors engineering: Radiotherapy application

Since early 2000, signicant investment in radiotherapy has taken place in Ireland. e requirements for this investment were based on poorer prognoses for patients with cancer in Ireland, compared to peer countries in Europe and elsewhere. One of the rst major investments was the development of a new publicly funded radiotherapy facility in Galway, on the west coast of Ireland. Up till then, no radiotherapy had been provided outside the main urban centers of Dublin and Cork. e Galway center was new and based in a hospital where no prior radiotherapy existed. Consequently, the center could take advantage of the most modern technologies available.
