Abstract

Authentic learning is a well-established method of developing skills in a real-world environment. This paper discusses how a hackathon can be used to replicate a real-life approach to development whilst providing support to the students by way of academic and industry mentors. The aim of the activity was to develop a genuine understanding in students of how user experience design is best implemented. Learnings were assessed using video submissions and reflective journals.
