Genital self-mutilation: A literature review and case report

Abstract

The case is presented of a male patient with a learning disability who systematically removed the glans penis with a razor blade, without obvious pain or distress and in the absence of any detectable psychosis. The literature on genital self-mutilation is reviewed and the current case is discussed in the light of this information.
