Abstract
This descriptive qualitative study explored parental perceptions of how Youth Circus Training [YCT] can support child development, as defined by the International Classification of Functioning and Disability and operationalized through the F-Words for Child Development framework. Parents (N = 5) of children attending YCT (Mage = 9.6 years) participated in semi-structured interviews. Parents reported that YCT participation positively influenced their children’s cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development, as well as relationships and occupational participation, mapping onto all six F-words for Child Development. YCT provides an intrinsically motivating, fun, inclusive, non-competitive environment that offers ‘something for everyone’. In conclusion, YCT participation has the potential to benefit all areas of child development and should be considered as a viable health-promoting activity for children with a range of abilities.
