Abstract
Absorption and fluorescence properties of the high lying (4f2) 1S0 state of Pr3+ in several crystal hosts are measured through a one photon absorption into the nearby 4f5d band and through a two photon excited state absorption from the intermediate 1D2 level into the 1S0 state. The 1S0 energy and lifetime are determined for several sites, and the effect of an enhanced configurational interaction due to the proximity of the 4f5d band is discussed.
