Abstract

Corrected proof of published report on a rescue excavation at a large linear earthwork known as the Knockans at Teltown, Co. Meath. The monument consisted of two parallel earthen banks that had been greatly damaged by earth-moving machinery in 1997, and limited excavation was undertaken prior to its reconstruction. Teltown (ancient Tailtiu) is prominent in early Irish history and mythology, and is celebrated in early literature as the site of the principal assembly of the Uí Néill kings of Tara. Late prehistoric and medieval activity was identified.
