Essential upper semicontinuous compact maps on normal topological vector spaces which have the fixed point property

Abstract

We introduce the notion of an essential map defined on normal topological vector spaces which have the fixed point property. The results are then used to establish a Krasnoselskii-Petryshyn compression and expansion theorem for compact upper semicontinuous maps defined on normed linear spaces.
