Engaging the public in science during the COVID-19 pandemic : Moving classroom-based engagement from in-person activities to online live interactions

Abstract

To remain active despite the COVID-19 restrictions, the Cell Explorers programme adapted its `in person activities to online live engagement sessions with young people in their schools or homes. This was achieved by providing participants with science kits to allow them to complete an experiment, which was facilitated remotely online by CE scientists over Zoom. Here we discuss the structure and organisation, along with tailored training given to the scientist facilitators. These elements were identified as crucial to maintain a high standard of facilitation and engagement.
