Abstract
The implicit nonconstructive and noneffective contents of some aspects of general equilibrium theory are formally investigated. In particular, the claims of some applied computable general equilibrium (CGE) theorists, regarding the constructivity and effectivity of CGE models, are rigorously analyzed and shown to be unsubstantiated. An attempt is also made to extract some general methodological guidelines for the meaningful mathematization of economic theory.
