Abstract
The advantages and disadvantages of intake of dietary caffeine are discussed. It is conceivable that particular individuals may not be susceptible to caffeine effects, whereas others may be especially sensitive. Caffeine consumption has received relatively little systematic clinical and public health attention. Within a framework of general risk assessment, current scientific evidence shows that dietary caffeine confers little or no benefit, while carrying a substantial burden of risk.
