Abstract
A collection of essays examining various aspects of traditional song in Irish, usually called sean-nós. Topics cover authenticity, historical development, adjudication, personal engagement, broadcasting trends and representations in literature. Three essays in Scottish Gaelic discuss the traditions of Nova Scotia (Cape Breton Island) and Scotland.
