Abstract
This paper describes an innovative project between university tutors and co-operating teachers in self-selected partner schools
with a focus on improving the school placement experience of the pre-service teacher. The evolution of collaborative partnership is explored from the perspectives of the university tutors. A social constructivist interpretation guided the project and the central role that engagement with emotion played, emerged as a dominant and defining theme. The paper concludes with a final
reflection on the transformational effects of the experience on the work lives of the tutors.
