Abstract
New experimental results concerning the concentration quenching of the luminescence of the I-4(9 2) level of Er3+ in different laser crystals, at room temperature, are presented. The detrimental effect of the concentration quenching of I-4(9 2) level on the 3 mum emission of Er lasers, expressed by the figure of merit, h, is discussed.
