CHALLENGES FOR ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY

Abstract

Assistive technology (AT) has the potential to have a significant impact on older people living independently. However, questions exist on its existing use and contribution within the social care sector. This paper documents a social-audit of selected older adult AT projects in Ireland, with a particular focus on participant experiences, project contribution and future concerns for ageing in the community. Findings suggest that consideration should be given to the importance that older people instil in place and person-led services, when developing new technologies.
