Abstract
A systematic search is made for extensions of the electroweak model which could support exact instanton solutions. The method is based on the descent from six and eight dimensions of generalised Yang-Mills systems. We find only one class of models with this property, whose Higgs multiplet is larger than an SU (2) doublet, and the gauge group is SU (2) X SU (2) X U (1).
