Abstract

Using revised nucleation theory, an attempt was made to examine whether or not binary homogeneous nucleation of H2O-H2SO4 can occur under realistic marine possibility layer conditions. The role of dynamics in enhancing nucleation rate was also studied. Two different air masses, maritime and polar maritime were investigated. Overall, dynamical effects did not produce binary nucleation in the marine air masses. By contrast, binary nucleation was predicted in the cooler, polar air masses.
