BUSINESS ACTIVITY MONITORING FOR PROCESS IMPROVEMENT: In recent years there have been significant advances made in healthcare process improvement, largely through adoption of methodologies such as Lean, which have proven their worth in manufacturing over the years. To enable process improvement, healthcare is increasingly being considered in terms of concepts such as care pathways - the health-care supply chains. Unfortunately, while lean initiatives are now widespread, the realisation of the integrated healthcare supply chain is still some way off. Lack of integration (interoperability), already missing in many industries including healthcare, impedes the ability to gather and correlate data across the supply chain, vital for ongoing process monitoring and management. In this paper, we present tools, which could deliver improved healthcare process visibility, enabling process performance improvements on a much larger scale than currently possible.
