Abstract

University-industry collaborations are expected to play an important role in economies through the development of new knowledge that can lead to innovative products, technologies and processes. Systematic knowledge about how to manage the long-term benefits arising from such collaborations is currently limited but indicates that managing the anticipated benefits requires a structured approach by the programme management activity. This paper presents the development of a framework for managing the benefits of university-industry collaborative programmes. The framework has been developed using a structured analysis technique for modelling stakeholder requirements and proposes a four-step iterative process. The research has been informed one major university-industry collaboration in firstly gather stakeholder requirements and later validating the details of the benefits management framework. This paper discusses the challenges of implementing benefits management among two or more partners and also demonstrates how challenges may be managed and overcome.
