Abstract

An attempt was made to isolate auxotrophic mutants from three species of blue-green algae, Gloeocapsa alpicola (Lyngbye) Bornet, Myxosarcina chroococcoides Geitler and Synechocystis pevalekii Ercegovic, using the mutagen N-methyl-N-nitroso-N’-nitroguanidine. Although the technique used has been shown to be successful for the isolation of drug-resistant mutants and pigment mutants, it was not possible to isolate auxotrophic mutants.
